Step Back in Time at Lincoln’s Spectacular Festival of History
Don’t miss the return of Lincoln’s highly anticipated Festival of History taking place 3 to 5 May, where the city’s rich past comes to life in a thrilling celebration of heritage.
Taking place over the Early May Bank Holiday weekend, immerse yourself in centuries of history with exciting re-enactments, hands-on activities, and captivating displays spread across Lincoln, made possible thanks to City of Lincoln Council’s Events in Lincoln team.
From medieval knights to Viking warriors, Roman soldiers to classic cars, this three-day festival promises an unforgettable journey through time for visitors of all ages.
A life-size time portal will await those daring enough to embark on an adventure through time! Attendees of the festival will also be able to pick up a time traveller’s guide to enhance their experience and learn more about Lincoln’s fascinating history, straight from the time traveller himself!
Step into the shoes of a noble knight, transform into a fearless Viking, or simply soak in Lincoln’s fascinating history. Whether you’re an avid history enthusiast or just looking for a fun-filled day out, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Lincoln’s most iconic landmarks will host thrilling historical experiences. At Lincoln Castle, witness dramatic Victorian-era re-enactments and meet fascinating characters, from Victorian travelling performers to the Ragged Victorians. Visitors can discover additional curiosities and even marvel at a flea circus!
While at the Cathedral, meet the famous Lincoln Longwool Sheep and delve into the city’s agricultural past.
On Saturday, 3 May, City Square will be home to a Classic Car Show, where enthusiasts can admire a stunning collection of vintage vehicles presented by Lincs Louth Motor Club. Travel even further back in time at Castle Square, where Roman Lincoln comes to life with live demonstrations of ancient crafts such as blacksmithing, tile-making, and weaving.
For a deeper dive into the 19th century, visit the Museum of Lincolnshire Life, where Victorian history unfolds through interactive exhibits and living history displays. Step into a Victorian schoolroom, kitchen, and living quarters, and marvel at antique items including a printing press and a Robey winding engine. Keep an eye out for intriguing historical figures like a physician, a soldier, and a pharmacist, and enjoy live music from a traditional Victorian harmonium musician.
City of Lincoln Council would like to thank its partners, Lincolnshire County Council, Lincoln Cathedral, Lincoln BIG, University of Lincoln, Waterside Shopping Centre and Lincolnshire Co-op, for getting involved in the event, making the festival a diverse and interactive experience where visitors can step into the portal and travel through Lincoln’s history.
