A colourful stampede is coming to Lincoln this summer!

Lincoln BIG are delighted to be welcoming a stampede of Elmer, the much-loved patchwork elephant, and friends, created by David McKee, this summer. 

Elmer and friends will be available to visit as part of Elmer’s BIG Art Parade from Saturday 13 July to Sunday 15 September across the city. 

These 12 vibrant elephants will be bringing a ton of fun and laughter to the City of Lincoln.  The theme of Elmer’s friends is famous artist paintings, an example being Monet’s ‘Water Lily Pond’.

The Summer of Fun from Saturday 20 July to Saturday 31 August is a programme of activity for children of all ages to meet authors, make Elmer related crafts and much more.  Activities will be taking place at Lush, Waterstones, Waterside Centre, Shelf Editions, Lincoln Museum and Central Library.

To launch Elmer’s BIG Art Parade, on Saturday 27 July, Elmer will be visiting the city and taking part in our Parade.  Come along, dressed in your favourite character costume, make an Elmer mask at one of our hubs (Waterstones, Waterside Centre, Shelf Editions and Central Library.  We will then meet at the High Street entrance of Waterside Centre to parade to Central Library. 

Local author, Lydia Sanders will be judging and awarding prizes for the best costume and mask in different age groups.  Lydia will also be reading from HERSTORIES of influential, inspiring, empowering women through the ages.

From 23 July – 31 August

  • Lincoln Museum are holding a Summer of Fun Trail – solve the clues to win a prize! Cost is £3 per trail. 

  • Holiday Inn have an elephant teddy who’s forgotten his name. They would love you to participate and guess his name.  They also have a colouring competition where your artwork will be displayed in the bar.  Each participant will receive a goody bag from the hotel on the Brayford.

Lesley Parr is the incredible author of ‘The Valley of Lost Secrets’ and ‘When the War Came Home’. Lesley will be with us to talk about her exciting new publication ‘Fallout’. Books will be for sale on the day.

Emma Carroll

Emma Carroll is the incredible author of ‘Letters From the Lighthouse’ and ‘The Tale of Truthwater Lake’. Emma will be with us to talk about her brilliant new book ‘The Houdini Inheritance’. Books will be for sale on the day.

James Nicol

James Nicol is the incredible author of ‘The Apprentice Witch’ and ‘The Spell Tailors’. James will be with us to chat about being an author and his fabulous new book ‘The Cloud Thief’. Books will be for sale on the day.

Bethany Walker

Lincoln Central Library

10.30 am – 12 pm

Suitable for all ages

Bethany Walker, children’s author of the hilarious picture book Do Lions Hate Haircuts? And the very funny chapter books Olly Brown, God of Hamsters and Chocolate Milk, X-Ray Specs and Me.  Bethany will be running fun craft activities inspired by her books. 

 

The trail booklet will be available from collection points across the city, with activity pages and competitions galore!  A donation of 30 p is asked for the leaflets with proceeds going to the Book Trust.
