StoryTrails Virtual Reality Event
Fancy exploring Lincoln’s untold history through the magic eye of virtual and augmented reality?
StoryTrails, the UK’s largest immersive storytelling experience, will be at Lincoln Central Library on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st July celebrating the city’s wellknown heritage alongside the lesser-known stories of local people. At the event you will explore stories across virtual and augmented reality and through a series of installations, which will bring the physical and digital together, breathing new life into your surroundings and helping you experience Lincoln like never before.
At Lincoln Central Library, you will enter a virtual story portal to begin your experience. The StoryTrails app, local performers and Lincoln’s very own Imp will then guide you, at your own pace, through an immersive tour of Lincoln to different story points along a route between the Library and Cathedral. Much of the experience has been created by a variety of animation and VR/AR specialists including ISO Design, Nexus Studios and Niantic, who created the mobile smash hit Pokemon Go, which saw players go out into the real world to catch monsters using their phone camera.
Inside the Library there will be an immersive cinema experience, 3D maps of Lincoln to explore and the opportunity to try virtual reality headsets that bring to life BBC and BFI archives. Experience how 3D scanning works by creating an avatar of yourself that can sit in the palm of your hand.
More traditional activities will also be on offer for families and children to get involved in. These include the opportunity for children to make an Imp mask ready for exploring the city through the AR trail with their family. Children and adults of all ages can mould their very own pottery imp too. Inspired by the feathered residents of the modern day Brayford Pool, and the story of St Hugh of Lincoln, children can also make their very own swan. The library’s Guess Where exhibition will require history detectives to piece together clues and landmarks to guess exactly where in the modern city the historic images on display are Lincoln Central Library’s StoryTrails event is open and free to all. It takes place on Saturday 30th July, 10am-6pm and Sunday 31st July, 11am – 5pm.
