Happy New Year! A time to reflect on the last 12 months?
The wise words of children…
A few weeks ago my daughter and I were talking about 2020, a year like no other in my lifetime let alone her short one. We were talking about what had happened through the year (or not happened!).
She said “2020 hasn’t been a bad year, just different. It reminded me how lucky we are to do so much usually and it will be extra good when we get to do everything again”.
Nothing like a child to tell you how it is. By this she didn’t just mean go abroad, to theme parks or holiday days out (although I am sure she would love to!). She meant to go out without social distancing, to not avoid people on the pavement and to spontaneously hug grandparents.
In 2020 our world was smaller than ever before and made us closer as a family . We were lucky enough to have some small breaks away when the restrictions lifted and created the laughs and the memories that, along with home schooling and our own backyard cricket, basketball (and now Subbuteo!) tournaments, will form the basis of what this year has been about for us.
Workwise, the first lockdown allowed me to create Lincs Kids as a new brand – it has been so well received so far and excited to see what happens in the year ahead.
At this time of year I am usually armed with a planner, a diary and lots of resolutions for the new year. This year feels different – maybe because I am not currently able to even leave the house! In time there will again be parties, school trips, football matches to actually attend rather than through a screen, maybe some actual face to face work meetings and real live events too!
So, for the moment my usual level of new year planning will take a back seat – all in good time. My main resolution for 2021 is to enjoy whatever it may bring – as a family. With another week of self isolation followed by a week of secondary home schooling, it will already be a different start from any other – wish me luck!
