Welcome to Lincs in Lockdown and beyond – our blog focusing on local businesses – how they are operating at present and their plans for the future. Today we hear from Baby & Me Lincoln…
Baby & Me specialise in support, massage and wellbeing for pregnant and postnatal women and their babies. In March 2020 we had to close the doors to our mum and baby wellbeing centre in Branston due to the Covid-19 pandemic meaning mums to be and new mums support, health and wellbeing services, classes and workshops came to an abrupt halt.
Pre Covid we operated a busy wellbeing centre with fully booked classes, appointments and workshops such as pregnancy and postnatal massage appointments, scar therapy, massage for labour workshops, baby massage classes, colic consultations and more.
We have had to adjust how we operate to be able to support mums through this difficult time as many of our clients have felt scared, anxious and isolated at what should be an exciting time of their life. Some of our clients have had to give birth alone, recover from birth with no support from family or friends and many feel robbed of their maternity leave and worried about how it has impacted both them and their baby.
To support our clients and reach mums far and wide we created an online community called The Calm Mums Club. This is a safe, supportive and nurturing online space for both mums and babies to receive postnatal and motherhood support, take part in weekly baby classes such as baby massage, baby reflexology and Massage Tales to further support their little ones physical and mental wellbeing, monthly Mummy Masterclasses covering topics that cause stress and worry for mums such as colic, sleep, selfcare and baby development as well as guest experts covering topics such as feeding, postnatal Pilates and aromatherapy. A monthly virtual coffee morning allows a chance for mums to connect, chat and support one another to help prevent feelings of isolation during these challenging times. On top of this one of our members is a mental health practitioner and has offered her support as our resident mental health expert for the mums in the group with tips and check ins all of which combine to address the areas that many mums have been struggling with since the pandemic began helping them to feel calm and in control.
Alongside The Calm Mums Club I have created an online course in baby massage as well as a second course called New Baby SOS! Both aim to inform and empower new parents to understand what is going on in the first 12 weeks after the birth of their baby to help them feel prepared and confident, as courses are pre-recorded this allows them to take it at their own pace from the comfort of their own home around any current commitments.
Post Covid I envision reopening our wellbeing centre to face to face clients to come and relax, connect and enjoy what we have on offer as well as continuing some elements of our online work in order to be able to reach mums far and wide with our holistic, nurturing support especially for mums.
